Son | ★★★★⯪

Son is a YA dystopian fantasy book following Claire, a teen girl who has been chosen to become a birthmother. Unlike other birthmothers she felt a longing and love for her child that did not dissapte no matter how long ago it happened. The story follows her journey to reuinte with her son Gabe.

This is the fourth and last book in The Giver series. I had started reading them a few years ago with my dad, who read The Giver for the first time, I had read The Giver in middle school but had no idea that there were othe books in the series. I loved the series but I was so distraught with how the third book had ended it was hard for me to get into and read this book. It took me a couple years but I finally finished it. I really enjoyed how it was kind of full circle, having her meet Jonas and Gabe and getting to reunite with her son. The first two parts of this book were amazing but I feel like the third part was so rushed. I understand that this is a YA novel and a book that is already 300 pages is a lot but I feel like she just wrapped it up to quickly, I wish there was more to it. Other than that though I really enjoyed it.

I read the book on Libby, which I have never used before, it was cool cause it let me know I read the book in an hour in a half within the 21 hours I had borrowed it. I have not read a book that fast in a while and it felt nice.

Legends & Lattes | ★★★★★

Legends & Lattes is a cozy fantasy book following Viv, an orc who has retired from her life of adventure. During her time of adventure she comes across something she had never heard of before, coffee, and she is immediately obsessed. Now that she has retired from her time of adventure she decides to open a coffee shop in a city she had only been two a handful of times. The story follows her "adventure" of starting and running the shop. It is filled with friendship, and a little bit of romance.

I really was not expecting to like the book as much as I did! When I had first heard of the book I thought it was just solely a romance book so I really had no interest in it. But during my shifts at work I kept seeing the third book in the series and it kept peaking my attention. I finally gave in and deicded to read the first book when I realized it isn't solely romance. It was honestly such a great book and I am glad I read it! It took me about a week to read but it was also a longer book and I have been busy.

Icarus | ★★★★★

Icarus is a YA & romance book following Icarus Gallagher, a 17 year old student who steals artwork from his father's enemy while also avoiding having anyone else too close to him. During one of his thefts he feels a presence he has never felt before.

This book was genuinely amazing. I borrwed it from work after being so intrigued by it after seeing the cover everyday. I was not expecting it to be written in the way it was and it threw me off guard but I grew to love it. The aspects of Art History, Mythology, and sprinkles of a sort of Catholicsm really hit home for me. I also really enjoyed K. Ancru's writing style so I am tempted to read more of her works. Would definitely recommend!

Heartstopper: Vol. 6 | ★★★★★

Heartstopper: Vol. 6 is a YA & romance graphic novel following Nick and Charlie, this book in particular follows their last year of school together as Nick is going to Uni and Charlie is still in sixth form. The series as a whole follows as their relationship started and goes being an openly gay couple at an all-boys school.

This book was genuinely amazing. I can not believe that it is the last book in the series (following Nick and Charlie). The book was so good in fact that I finished it in one sitting. The Heartstopper series is so amazing in its own right, but I am so glad that it got me into the osemanverse. Alice Oseman is an amazing writer and is probably one of if not my favorite authors. If you haven't already read the Heartstopper series or any of her other books you should definitely give them a read they are my top reccommendations.

Babel: An Arcane History | ★★★

Babel is a historical fiction & fantasy book which is set mainly in Oxford, England during the 1800s. In this book, England utilizes silver bars marked with match-pairs of different languages. These match-pair allow the silver to make things easier or be used as a sort of magic. These are made by students at Oxford's Translation Institute, Babel. Babel's students are comprised of students from all throughout the empire but those students who are not from european countries are most coveted.

The process of reading this book was a sort of rollercoaster. In the first 100 or so pages I was very immersed in the book. Though the more I read the more some of these characters became a bit unbearable. I also struggle with when I know something bad is going to happen I avoid it so this book almost became a book I DNF. On 8/12 I decided I wanted to finish it so I read 171 pages and on 8/13 I read 104. I was able to push through but I realized that I liked the characters and the writing more in the beginning of the book more than the end. Though I didn't really enjoy the book as a whole I do agree with the meaning behind the book which is the effects of racism and colonialism.

For Whom the Belle Tolls | ★★★★★

For Whom the Belle Tolls is a romantic fantasy book which is a prelude to Jaysea's tiktok series "Hell's Belles". The book (and tiktok series) are mainly set in the Afterlife, a place where different afterlifes (such as Christianity's Heaven and Viking's Valhalla) are able to intermingle. The book gives the backstory of Lily, Sharkie, Bel, and the Hellp Desk. Lily and Sharkie are both humans who are now in their Afterlife while Bel is a demon prince. The book is the first in the upcoming Hell's Belles series, with the second book, The Belles of Wrath, releasing in April of 2027.

As a warning, do not read this unless you are 18+ as it does include smut. I have been watching Hell's Belles on tiktok for years and so when I found out she was making a prelude into a book I knew I had to read it. As someone who doesn't really like reading romance books I really enjoyed the book. Jaysea is such an amazing writer and was able to really catch and keep my attention. I couldn't put the book down, I was bringing the book with me everywhere and read anytime I had free time.

Fruits Basket | ★★★★★

This is honestly one of my favorite shows ever. It is just honestly so good, like if you have never watched it you need to. I read the manga before I watched either of the animes so I went into the anime knowing what was going on but I think it made it better. Out of both adaptations this one is 10x better, though I would still watch the 2001 adaptation if you haven't.

Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special | ★★★★★

This is a special celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hannah Montana tv show. In the special Miley Cyrus revisits the sets and different aspects of the show with guests. It also includes some performances throughout the special.

I absolutely loved this special, I watched so much Hannah Montana as a kid, playeed her wii game religiously, and even dressed up as her for Halloween. It was genuinely so nice seeing Miley revisiting it especially with how she was treated in the 2010s. If you grew up with Hannah Montana and still haven't watched it you should definitely watch it!

MOVIES

Minions and Monsters | ★★★★★

The movie was genuinely really good! I was a little afraid at the beginning but it was genuinely so good, the story was really funny and I enjoyed following a new set of minions. I also really enjoyed the history references. The only thing I was really surprised about was how crude so of the humor was, especially for a kids movie. Though my parents and I thought it was hilarious. If I had to choose a favorite character it would probably be Dort or Ed.

Muppets | ★★★★★

The movie is genuinely so iconic, I have always loved it. The soundtrack has banger after banger and gets talked about all the time. I love Walter and am sad we don't see him that often (they added him to the queue of Rock 'n' Roller Coaster ft. The Muppets though). I started watching Muppets Most Wanted but I haven't finished it yet.
